The house is situated in the mountain village, 3kms above the pretty riverside town of Gois with views all around of the beautiful countryside, forests.and distant mountain villages. At present it is registered as a holiday rental and brings in a reasonable income and would make a lovely comfortable holiday home, as it was originally for the present owners.
The property has been sympathetically renovated but maintains much of its original cottage charm and is full of character. It has double glazed and shuttered windows and the attic has been insulated. There is a wood burning stove in the living room and electric radiators in all the rooms for those chilly evenings. The location gives wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the small terrace at the rear of the house faces the rising sun and from the large terrace at the front you can sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun goes down. The clear night skies are full of stars and fantastic sunsets.
On the ground floor is a large entrance hall, wardrobes with storage cupboards and two double bedrooms leading off, each with an ensuite shower room and walk in closet.
From the entrance hall the pine staircase leads up to the first floor where there is a small study area (which takes a small single bed), a landing/cloakroom and a utility room with WC, washbasin and washing machine.
From the landing there is a large open plan living room with original wooden ceilings, wood burning stove, dining area and modern kitchen with ample cupboards, free standing gas cooker and fridge freezer. There is a door from the living room leads out to the large terrace and a set of marble stairs going down to the front of the house.
The patio doors from the kitchen lead out to the small terrace with stairs leading down to the walled garden where there is another kitchen next to the built in BBQ and original working bread oven. A wonderful place for relaxing and dining surrounded by the shrubs and trees including camellias, an orange and a lemon tree, two old olive trees as well as a colourful hedge of hydrangeas and jasmine.. There is also a gas bottle storage/gardening room and wood store.
The house has wifi internet and a large satellite dish providing all UK channels as well as an aerial for receiving Portuguese TV. The property can be sold fully furnished if necessary. There are walks from the house in every direction along forest paths to enjoy the local flora and fauna and panoramic views of forests, mountains and far off villages.
The ancient town of Gois, only 3 kms away, has a supermarket, schools, banks, post office, pharmacy, health centre, shops, hairdressers, cafes and restaurants. In the summer the riverside is a joy to walk along with several river beaches and waterside café/bars. There is a small market on a Tuesday where you can purchase local products. Gois is a good starting place for touring the Central Region and experiencing the real Portugal. There are numerous river beaches with safe swimming areas, café bars, BBQs and picnic spots some with canoes for hire. Other local activities include fishing, horse riding, cycling and 20 minutes away there is ten pin bowling and go-carting..
